Andre Marais of South Africa to the post of Head Coach of the U16 National team for season 2021-2022.

Somang Hockey continues to finalize its outstanding staff with the nomination of Andre Marais of South Africa (don’t let the family name fool you) to the post of Head Coach of the U16 National team. Andre comes to Somang with a very impressive resume that includes leading player development programs across all four Provinces within the SAIHF (South Africa Ice Hockey Federation), the management of all National Team Coaches during international competitions, as well as the management and direction and selection of all National Squads and Teams within the SAIHF. In 2016, Andre became the first-ever South African Ice Hockey Coach to obtain the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program Level IV certification, a great distinction and honor. Somang VP Hockey Francois Landreville welcomed the move, » We have been looking for an experienced coach and leader to take the U15 program to the next level as players advance on their journeys through Somang towards the U16, U18 and Prep squads. We feel that we have found the right man in Andre. «Somang President Michael Bujold also welcomed the addition, » Andre is living proof of the international nature of our game. It matters little where you come from, what matters is the passion and knowledge you have for the game. Andre has both in spades.
